“Does your blog make money?” is a common question in the blogging community. The answer for you can be a resounding “yes” as long as you are willing to focus on the right things. You need to make sure you are putting up quality, relevant content to start. You also need to make sure you are helping your readers solve their problems. When you do these things in the appropriate quantities, you will have a successful blog. Here are some tips I have picked up over the years that can really help you get your blog rolling in the right direction:
1. Focus on your reader’s needs — You want to send off the vibe that you are there to help your readers. You want to provide information that they can not find anywhere else. This is where your personal experiences and stories come in. You want to open up and share your personal story and experiences as much as you are willing to do. This will make your information truly unique, and your readers will love having access to this information.
2. Master the 500 work post — Most of my students spend way too much focus on “how to make money blogging” and not enough on getting top quality posts on their blogs. You need to become a true master of the 500 word blog post. This will allow you to get to be a great communicator in your niche, and 500 word posts are very good for search engine rankings.
3. Get to know your readers as much as possible — You really can’t help your readers if you do not know what their specific problems are. You want to get to know your readers through email and comment communications at a minimum. I often ask my readers to “hit me up” on Skype so we can have a real chat. These conversations help me greatly in understand what my reader need and want out of me. This kind of interaction will really help your blog take off.
