Mold can cause harm to the health and ruin a home. With the prevalence of mold spores in the air, everyone should know how to rid their home of mold. A mixture of baking soda and vinegar is one of the best treatments for getting rid of mold in the shower. If the mold seems resistant to the vinegar, try an abrasive cleaner such as Comet to finish it off. Try keeping vinegar in a spray bottle to use in practically any place with no worries of harmful chemicals.
Surface cleaning only takes care of part of the problem. Mold often returns if moisture problems are not corrected. Repair any leaking faucets or water pipes. On hard surfaces use a mild detergent and water to remove the mold. If the mold is firmly attached, use a stiff brush. Once mold has been removed, rinse the area. Make sure that it is thoroughly dry. To kill any remaining spores use a solution that contains ¼ cup of bleach and mild soap in four quarts of water.
Chlorine bleach is effective against nearly all kinds of mildew and mold. Vinegar works well too, but may not kill all mold species. When using chlorine bleach or other chlorine containing compounds for mold removal, be sure that you do not get the substances on surfaces that might be harmed by the bleaching action.
