A Computer Laser Printer versus an Inkjet Printer

There are many factors you should take into consideration when selecting a new printer. Purchase the correct type of printer and you should enjoy its uninterrupted use for many years. A laser printer uses static electricity, a small laser beam and fine powder to create a print. This fine powder is the “ink” and it is contained in a toner cartridge. An inkjet printer sprays liquid ink onto the printing medium. As you can see, there are fundamental differences between each of these printers.

Advantages & Disadvantages: Laser Printer

A computer laser printer can print pages at a much faster rate than inkjet printers can. This allows for higher productivity and is one of the main reasons why laser printers are a favorite in the office environment. Laser printers tend to be more expensive to purchase, especially when a color laser printer is required. Replacement cartridges can be quite expensive. It should be noted that you gain more printing mileage out of toner than inkjet cartridges.

Advantages & Disadvantages: Inkjet Printer

Inkjet printers are very popular. Their versatility and low purchase cost enables the budget conscious to perform a wide variety of printing jobs. The inkjet can print using many different sizes of paper, on envelopes and even on compact disks. Photographs can also be printed. Cartridges can be quite expensive and it is not uncommon for the price of replacements to be close to the original cost of the printer. Inkjet printers are usually much smaller than laser printers.

You should consider some other factors before purchasing a computer laser printer or an inkjet printer. Printers can connect to the computer using either a standard printer port or USB. If you do not have a free USB socket, you should try to find a printer with a parallel port. Printers sometimes have an integrated scanner. Scanners are useful for photocopying or for copying a physical document onto your computer. Memory card slots that facilitate the likes of camera SanDisks allow for printing without the use of a computer. It is clear that there are many things one has to consider when buying a printer; therefore, it’s a good idea to note down the features you require.
